ethnovision made a short film which explores Dutch identity. In the fisherman’s village Volendam, one can find all kinds of ‘emblems’ of ‘Dutch culture’: windmills, herring, cheese factories and wooden shoes. This film explores how Dutch identity is constructed in the practice of costume photography. The filmmakers examined the story behind this popular ritual and identified a central role for claims to authenticity within this theatre.
